BioHiTech Global (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) plans to expand the use of its proprietary HEBioT recycling and mechanical/biological treatment technology at two unnamed sites near the New York metropolitan area.
HEBioT integrates sorting equipment with technologies that recover plastics, biomass, and other carbon materials from mixed municipal solid waste to produce solid recovered fuel. The technology reportedly converts nearly 80 percent of the MSW stream to fuel.
Entsorga North America, BioHiTech’s wholly owned subsidiary, is the exclusive licensee of HEBioT in the northeastern United States, in partnership with Apple Valley Waste Conversions. BioHiTech also will purchase an equity interest in the HEBioT facility under construction in Martinsburg, West Virginia, which it expects to begin operations next summer.
